How do I enlarge my screen view on my laptop so I can see it on my TV screen?

I have a Gateway NV laptop and im using Windows 7. Because my charger is so touchy I decided to just set the laptop up on my tv and use a wireless mouse and keyboard and basically use the laptop as a tower. I have it hooked up to a 55" Sony Bravia LCD TV but I cant really see the screen. I know I can use ctr++ to make internet pages bigger and I have my icons enlarged but I still cant see my menu items or stuff on itunes. I have it set on the highest resolution and it hasn't helped is there a way to make everything bigger?
