How to connect a laptop to tv through S-Video cord?

i have dell inspiron 6400 laptop.i connected it through S-Video Cord to tv.the tv is CTR.i pressed fn and f8.it connected. but the picture came in black and white. no colour. no audio also. i tried the color management settings in laptop but no use. pls help me to connect it to tv
